Q: What exactly is MEAP?
A: MEAP is an Early Access subscription of a single yet to be
published book that you can only get at Manning.com. You get each individual
chapter of the book as a PDF electronic download as soon as it is finished, before
publication, until you get the whole book on the release date.
Q: How do I order a MEAP subscription?
A: First, place an order for the MEAP title of your choice. As each
chapter of that book is finished and ready to download, we notify customers by
email. You choose which chapters to download and when. Each chapter is there
waiting for you. As more chapters are finished, we post them for customers until
all content of the book is released.
Q: When will I get each chapter?
A: MEAP books are in the process of being published. While we
try to release chapters on a regular weekly basis during the subscription period, normal editing and reviewing cycles can cause the schedule to vary. However, we do promise to release each chapter to you as soon as it meets the Manning quality standards.
Q: How do I know when new chapers are released?
A: We provide several ways for you to learn when new chapters are released:
- Home page - you can check our home page for latest chapter release news.
- Book page - the book's web page will let you know what chapters are available.
- MEAP announcement forum - we post announcement articles in a special announcement forum in our Sandbox as chapters are released. You can check manually for changes, or:
- Set a "watch" on the forum - the forum system will automatically send you watch alert emails according to your account preferences.
- Subscribe to the RSS feed - each forum has an RSS feed that you can subscribe to using your RSS feed reader. Many web browsers include RSS support.
Q: What are my options with MEAP?
A: For all Manning books, you choose the format: ebook or print
edition. With MEAP books, you get the same choices plus the added bonus of Early Access
to electronic chapters for no extra charge with these two options:
MEAP Ebook - Prefer electronic books? Start downloading available PDF chapters right away. When all chapters are finished you get the complete ebook edition which includes any final edits to the chapters plus other elements of the book, the table of contents, the index, and more. The ebook contains everything included in the finished print edition -- except the paper.
MEAP E+P - If you are traditional and like paper, choose the MEAP E+P package, which includes individual PDF chapters and the complete ebook as above, plus a copy of the printed book, straight off the presses, shipped to you.
Q: May I buy all Manning books this way?
A: At this time, each MEAP subscription is for a single title.

Q: Where can I order a MEAP book?
A: MEAP is only available through Manning.com.
Q: Will MEAP books have an Author Online Forum?
A: An announcement and normal Author Online forum are
created for all MEAP books. Authors will monitor but may not respond to
posts on the Author Online forum until the book is published. MEAP occurs
when authors are at their busiest finishing the book and we want them to
spend their limited time getting the book published! Once the book is
officially published, the authors will start participating in their forum.
Q: Is there source code available during the MEAP?
A: In most cases there will not be source code available
during the MEAP period. Authors are busy getting the book finalized and
this includes the source code so often the final source code isn't available
until the book is published. If source code is available it will be posted
on the book's web page.
Q: Can I post errata for a MEAP title? Will it help?
A: We welcome you to post any errata to the book's
Author Online forum. Authors will be monitoring the forum for errata
and if it is possible, they'll integrate it into the final draft. Sometimes
the book is already on it's way to the printer by the time a MEAP chapter
is available so not all errata will make it into the first printing. However,
all errata is greatly appreciated and we'll post it to the book's web page
and update future printings.
